Weeping Statue of Christ
Cochabamba, Bolivia

Weeping Christ Statue Cochabamba, BoliviaCrying tears of Christ statue

A chapel in Cochabamba, Bolivia is said to contain a mysterious weeping statue of Christ.

The story of the crying statue of Christ began in 1995, when a lady from Cochabamba purchased a statue at a local store. Within a matter of hours of her returning home after purchasing the statue she noticed a strange liquid coming from the statue.

Word got out all over town about the weeping statue of Christ. Many were skeptical. Especially, a local TV reporter from Cochabamba, who decided to investigate. The reporter and his camera man set up their camera in front of the statue, and watched and waited. Within about 45 minutes the statue began to shed what seemed to be tears from the eyes which turned to blood, and blood dripped from crown of thorns on the head. They were able to capture these images on film and were convinced that what they saw was not the product of a trick or fraud.

Within hours after the weeping, the statue was subjected to a CAT scan analysis which was filmed. The analysis showed that the statue was solid plaster with a void of air inside. No liquids or mechanisms were found inside it.

The sample of the blood like substance from the statue was given to Gentest Laboratories in New Orleans, Louisiana, USA for testing. The laboratory was not told the origin of the sample. They found that the substance was blood and that it contained human DNA. An Australian State Government Forensic Testing Laboratory confirmed the American findings when they tested another sample which was given to them.

Today, you can go and see this Jesus statue, which is located in a chapel called Capilla Cristo de las Lágrimas de San Pedro. The chapel is located on the corner of Las Heroínas and Belzu in Cochabamba, it is open from Monday to Saturday from 2:45pm-6pm.
